Year 6 to Year 7 Admissions
Applications for Year 7 places open on 1st September of the school year that children are in Year 6. Admissions are co-ordinated through the local authority of the area in which a child lives.
In each Year 7 cohort, Hartford Church of England High School has 240 places for children of all backgrounds, faiths and beliefs. Within these 240 places are 35 places offered to children of the Christian faith where either they or their parents, play an active role in a Christian Church; these are called foundation places.
The parents of all children applying for a Year 7 place at Hartford Church of England High School must do so using their local authority secondary school admissions form which is usually completed online. In addition, any parents applying for a foundation (Christian) place, should do so using the school’s Supplementary application form.
Supplementary Application FormThis will need to be printed and counter-signed by a Church leader. (Hard copies can be collected from Hartford Church of England High School reception).
The local authority admissions form should be completed by 31st October of the year in which a child is in Year 6. The supplementary application form should be completed and returned to Hartford Church of England High School by the same date, 31st October 2024.
As a Voluntary-Aided School, Hartford Church of England High School acts as its own admissions authority. As such, the Admissions Committee of the Governing Body meets after the close of the applications procedure to process all Foundation applications and identify those that meet the criteria, as set out in the Admissions Policy.
After 31st October, the local authority processes all Year 7 applications. Parents are notified of their allocated places on 1st March of the following calendar year (in the spring term of Year 6).
Once parents are notified of the offer of a place at Hartford Church of England High School, our Admissions Officer contacts all parents and children to welcome them to our school. An invitation to our Year 6 welcome evening will follow. This is a special evening when we bring together our new Year 7 cohort for the first time and children, parents and carers have the opportunity to meet members of staff and current Hartford Church of England High School students. The transition process then begins when our Head of Transition visits the children and teachers in their primary schools to find out more and prepare for their arrival in September. Transition Days, a Parents Evening, Uniform Trying on Evening and even a Disco follow! All of these activities with the aim to ensure that children are welcomed into the Hartford Church of England High School community and have the best opportunity to succeed at secondary school.
